Does DEI Still Matter

We want to have an honest conversation about something weighing on our minds. Recently, you might have noticed news about the defunding of DEI initiatives in some organisations. We understand the concerns this raises in our community—it’s disheartening to see commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion being questioned or scaled back.

But here’s the truth from our perspective at She Leads for Legacy: DEI still matters, and now more than ever.

Why DEI Remains Crucial

Diverse Teams Drive Innovation:

When we work in an environment that celebrates different backgrounds and perspectives, creativity blossoms. Cutting funding for DEI risks stifling the vibrant ideas that come from truly diverse teams.

Equity Builds Trust and Resilience:

A workplace that values fairness and inclusivity isn’t just good for morale—it builds trust and long-term stability. Investing in DEI is investing in our collective success.

Justice Benefits Everyone:

Beyond the office walls, DEI initiatives help create a more just society. When these programs are defunded, it sends a discouraging message, but it also strengthens our resolve to push back and create real change.

What Can We Do Together?

Even in challenging times, hope remains. We believe that if we stand together, we can overcome these setbacks. Here are three actionable steps to support DEI:

Educate and Advocate:

Stay informed about the undeniable benefits of DEI. Share your knowledge and challenge outdated ideas. Every conversation helps shift the narrative toward inclusion.

Support Inclusive Leaders:

Seek out and back organisations and leaders who continue to invest in DEI. Your support can create a ripple effect, encouraging more entities to prioritize equitable practices.

Connect and Collaborate:

Join communities—like ours—where experiences, ideas, and resources are shared freely. By working together, we become a formidable force driving positive change.

At She Leads for Legacy, our commitment to justice and fairness at work is unwavering. The recent defunding trends are concerning, but they also reinforce why our mission is so important. We believe in a future where every Black woman and ally has the opportunity to lead and succeed. When we unite our voices and efforts, there’s no challenge too great.

Let’s keep pushing, supporting each other, and proving that together, we will succeed.
